Real Estate Licensing

The Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services issues real estate licenses for salespeople and brokers.

Licenses are issued by the Department after an applicant has completed the required education, passed the licensing exam and submitted an application with payment to the Department.

Most applicants for a sales license must complete an accredited 72 hour course before writing the exam. Most broker applications must have completed the salesperson's education and testing requirements, then complete an accredited 36 hour broker course and pass a second test before submitting application to be licensed as a broker.

The Department of Safety and Professional Services makes final determination on educational requirements and may waive all or part of the 72 hour or 36 hour requirement based on previous education. Call 608-266-2112 for additional information, including possible reduced education requirements for those licensed in other states.

Salesperson and brokers exam are computerized tests conducted by Pearson Vue. In Eau Claire, the exams are offered at 3610 Oakwood Mall Drive, Suite 102, Monday through Saturday and must be scheduled in advance. This schedule is subject to change. No previous computer experience is necessary to write the exam. The exam fee for both the sales and broker test is $71. Contact Pearson Vue at (888) 204-6284 to confirm testing schedule and for additional information.

Contact WRA at 608-241-2047 or www.wra.org for information on courses available to satisfy the required hours for writing either the broker or salesperson exam.
