Home buyers in Eau Claire may experience longer loan processes due to government shutdown as Seen on WQOW

Eau Claire (WQOW) – The partial government shutdown is impacting much more than federal employees, but also home sales here in Wisconsin.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development is one of the federal agencies currently closed because of the shutdown. That means lenders can’t verify loans, because buyers will have limited access to tax return transcripts and other needed documents.

But local realtors said the shutdown shouldn’t impact buying too much, for now.

“We just happen to be in an area where we don’t have a ton of government loans being funded at the moment,” said Brenda Barnhardt, Executive VP of Realtors Association for Western Wisconsin. “Because we are in the state of Wisconsin we have, luckily, some state programs that could step up in place of a government loan.”

Barnhardt recommends that you simply keep communication open with your lender and realtor to make sure the process moves along.
