Off the Market: Eau Claire home sales up big so far this year as Seen on WQOW

Eau Claire (WQOW)- Through a cold and snowy winter, home sales stayed red-hot in the Chippewa Valley.

Home sales in Eau Claire increased 25 percent this February, compared to February 2018, according to the Realtors Association of Northwestern Wisconsin.

Realtor David FitzGerald said February numbers are actually a reflection of sales from December and January, since a sale takes 30 to 45 days to process.

While the data shows home sales rose in February, FitzGerald said the bad weather means there were probably fewer homes actually sold. He expects March and April statistics to drop some.

He said right now there’s still high demand, so if you’re looking to buy, you’ll want to be ready to sign on the dotted line.

“Make sure you get pre-qualified ahead of time,” FitzGerald said. “Make sure you have your side of the transaction taken care of. Basically that’s getting pre-qualified, being ready, and then become knowledgeable in the market, and with the help of a realtor, get out and see some homes. Be ready to act on the home that you like as soon as you see it.”

FitzGerald said if you’re hoping to buy, do it sooner rather than later, before home prices go up in the spring and summer.
