Candidates for Eau Claire City Council president participate in housing forum as seen on WQOW

Eau Claire (WQOW) – Thursday morning, Terry Weld and Andrew Werthmann participated in their last Q & A forum as candidates for Eau Claire City Council president.

The housing forum was hosted by the Chippewa Valley Home Builders Association and the Realtors Association of Northwestern Wisconsin. Weld and Werthmann shared their views on housing-related topics to create a conversation with a greater goal. That goal is how the city council can create policies to make it easier and more affordable for the construction and purchasing of homes in the community.

“We have these 30 recommendations from our task force over the next two years that are everything from our zoning laws, to our set backs, to our parking regulations, to streamlining our process for applications, to our fee schedules, to everything,” Werthmann said.

“The other side of it is making sure we are looking at filling in our voids and where we need more development,” Weld countered. “So, if it means pushing outside our boundaries now and extending our city services, water, sewer and streets, then maybe that’s something we need to look at as well.”

Ten candidates running for city council at-large positions will face off in a News 18 sponsored forum Thursday night. Five of them will be elected to the city council on April 2.
